Crowded shared jeeps take you from Rajgir to Nalanda, the fare being Rs 8. Apart from state transport buses, one can also find many private bus services offered by individual operators plying within as well as outside Rajgir.

Rajgir Railway Station has regular trains to Danapur, Varanasi and New Delhi. However a convenient railhead is the next major railway point, the one at Gaya, about 78 kilometres from Rajgir. Rajgir is well connected to Gaya and from Gaya, one can board trains for Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bangalore and other major cities.

At present Rajgir does not have an airport of its own. The nearest airport is the Gaya International Airport, about 78 kilometres from Rajgir city. It has flights to domestic as well as international destinations like Colombo, Kathmandu, Bangkok etc. However, a more convenient one would be the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport at Patna, about 100 kilometres from Rajgir. It has regular flights to major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Lucknow etc, run by various airlines. It is therefore more preferred by the tourists visiting Rajgir.
